Extreme Bill Makes Minnesota One of the Most Pro-Abortion States in the U.S.
On January 31st, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz signed into law a bill which enshrines a “right” to abortion in state law, allowing abortions up to birth for any reason.
Minnesota’s democrat-controlled legislature was the first in the country to codify abortion into their state law by passing the Protective Reproductive Options (PRO) Act. This bill acts as an added layer of protection for the abortion industry.
Abortion was already considered a “right” in Minnesota following a 1995 court ruling Doe v. Gomez. However, the passage of the PRO Act would ensure abortion remains legal in the event the Doe v. Gomez decision is overturned.
In a press release, Governor Walz boasted about the permanency of the bill. “No matter who sits on the Minnesota Supreme Court, this legislation will ensure Minnesotans have access to reproductive health care for generations to come.” Walz shouldn’t be able to speak about “generations to come” when his pro-abortion action prevents their very existence.
Minnesota’s lack of protection for the preborn now matches the policies of Canada, China, Vietnam, South Korea, and North Korea. A report from the Family Research Council reflects on this shameful association. “In North Korea, no human rights are safe or valued, either for the unborn or the born. The citizens of 20 U.S. states that do not protect unborn children until after they are born ought to shudder when considering their state’s laws are comparable to the abortion standards of one of the world’s worst human rights violators.”
Several U.S. States, now including Minnesota are now in disagreement with the Declaration of Independence which states “all men are created equal and endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”
In Vitae’s research study, Choosing a Life for Vitae: A Synthesis of Findings, we learned that controlling the legality of abortion is not the most effective way to reduce abortion in our culture. Many women want to have the ability to choose abortion even if they believe that abortion is wrong. An effective strategy would focus on a less direct, less emotionally threatening strategy to reduce the number of abortions.
Utilizing Vitae’s Pro-Woman Approach is a research and evidence-based way to amplify the sanctity of life message above the airwaves which have been polluted with misinformation by the abortion industry.
