Based on the fact that 1 in 5 men will experience an abortion in their lifetime, Vitae Foundation knew we needed a research study specifically on men. For too long, society has told men that they should not have a voice, but we know that’s not true. Men have an important role to play in cultivating a culture where women and children are loved and valued. It is time we took a stand for women and men. Through this research, we will influence the culture to empower men to stand up and voice how proud they are to take on the role of fatherhood. A strong father plays a multifaceted role, including providing physical and emotional security, modeling positive behaviors, offering guidance and discipline, and fostering healthy relationships. A strong father acts as a provider, protector, and role model, shaping his children’s development and sense of self. We need strong fathers! Our upcoming Men’s Study will aim to reveal the emotional dynamics involving men and the issues of abortion. We will be asking questions like:
- Why do men say: “I’ll support you either way” when facing an unexpected pregnancy? Especially those who actually want to keep their child?
- What is the man’s perception of his influence on the woman’s decision when facing an unexpected pregnancy?
- Where does the belief that he does not have a voice for life originate?
The answers, we hope, will offer a rich and in-depth perspective that can then be used to help pregnancy centers, churches, pro-life nonprofits, and abortion healing ministries more effectively reach out to the men affected by abortion. We believe this study has the potential to be one of our most impactful studies to date.

The Men’s Study Advisory Committee will help ensure that this important project is focused on the most relevant issues related to men, abortion, and culture. It will also be entrusted with helping to get the study findings into the hands of culture influencers such as conservative media, policymakers, attorneys, medical professionals, Christian counselors, and pastors. The Men’s Study Advisory Committee is comprised of men who:
- are strong husbands and fathers
- have a passion for protecting and promoting life from conception to natural death
- understand and appreciate Vitae’s research-based messaging approach
- can reach a wide national audience
- are willing to contribute ideas to the development of study goals and design
- will help to widely disseminate the study findings to the world
- have experience and expertise in speaking competently and compassionately on issues related to life, abortion, and a man’s role in the family
Vitae Foundation looks forward to the positive and lasting impact Men’s Study Advisory Committee members will have on the culture. We are confident they will contribute to the study goals of helping men regain a voice for life, providing strong, compassionate, life-affirming support to the women in their lives, and protecting their children, born and preborn.
